So…I guess I did a poor job of updating this. But here I am, back to blogging! Things have been pretty normal all around, but I thought I’d talk a little bit about summer work! As I’ve explained, during the school year, I am an Owl Ambassador at Temple University. I give tours, present information sessions, help run prospective and accepted student days, etc. It’s a fun job but unfortunately I can’t be on campus during the summer soooooo, this summer I have taken my first summer job! Last year, I applied like crazy for jobs but the job market in Rochester wasn’t looking too hot for teens. This year, I was very fortunate to find a position in a grocery store! I currently hold a position in the deli, which turned out to be a lot more and a LOT different from what I expected. Yes, you go to a deli and what do you assume you do there? Get sliced deli meat (duh!) that’s what I thought, but this particular deli is also in charge of the store’s prepared foods and salads section. So, this has really turned into a food service position.

There is a lot of food preparation to be done along with, of course, helping customers and slicing fresh deli meats and cheese. It is VERY different from being a tour guide but it is a fresh change to have for a few months! And ya know…some skills from being a tour guide have really come in handy. Everything is all about customer service and a large portion of being an Owl Ambassador is giving the “customer” (the prospective and their family) a good experience. You do that in a grocery store too! If a customer is not happy, it is your personal job to see through the problem and fix it. That’s what really makes a successful business. So yes, I have become a working girl this summer and I could not be happier. Working is so rewarding and I really love interacting with people – both my coworkers and the customers!

Now, here comes the fun part….I’ve accepted ANOTHER job! I am now to be a nanny, in addition to Deli Girl. I admit, I was a little nervous for the responsibility but I’m really looking forward to it. It’s definitely better to be doing something rather than sitting at home by myself watching TV all day! More details and stories to come…I’m about to become very busy!!

Toodles for now!
